St. Catherine of Siena Center and partners will co-present a series of programs at 重口味SM this fall semester. Siena Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

P谩draig 脫 Tuama

鈥&苍产蝉辫;The 10th Annual Caesar and Patricia Tabet Poetry Reading will feature Irish poet and theologian P谩draig 脫 Tuama on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Lund Auditorium.

脫 Tuama鈥檚 work centers around themes of language, power, conflict and religion. He is the author of several books of poetry and prose, including Feed the BeastDaily Prayer with the Corrymeela CommunityIn the ShelterSorry for your Troubles, and Readings from the Book of Exile

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased .

This program is co-presented with 重口味SM鈥檚 Department of English.

鈥 A free Public Health Panel on Food Insecurity and Justice will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m. in Martin Recital Hall

Experts in the fields of public health, education, and nutrition and dietetic sciences will present a panel discussion exploring topics like access to food, food insecurity, justice and equity in nutrition, and the emerging concept of food as medicine.

The panel will consist of Isabel Galic, a master鈥檚 candidate in public health at University of Illinois Chicago; Dr. Sarah Jones, professor in 重口味SM鈥檚 Nutrition Science program; Teri Miller, director of development at Beyond Hunger, Oak Park; and Dr. Tamara Bland, dean of Borra College of Health Sciences.

Registration  is required.

This program is co-presented with Borra College of Health Sciences and the Resurrection Project.

鈥 Writer, poet and speaker Javier Zamora will present 鈥淪olito: Home, Identity and the Immigrant Experience鈥 on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in Lund Auditorium and online.

Zamora will discuss his new memoir Solito, in which he explores his immigrant experience and his harrowing journey to the U.S. as an unaccompanied 9-year-old. He shares the story of his trek to reunite with his family and how therapy and writing helped him heal from the trauma he experienced.

This program is free, but registration  is required.

Zamora鈥檚 appearance is co-presented with 重口味SM鈥檚 PASOS Network. 

Nuns on the Bus
Sr. Bernadine Karge

鈥&苍产蝉辫;鈥淐ourageous Conversations鈥 with Sr. Simone Campbell, SSS and Sr. Bernadine Karge, OP will take place Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in Lund Auditorium.

This program will feature discussions about what happens when commitments to justice and advocacy are lived out in daily life.

Sr. Simone Campbell served as executive director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. She is an attorney and poet who works in public policy and advocacy for systemic change. Sr. Bernadine Karge, also an attorney, has practiced immigration law in Chicago for more than 30 years. She participated in NETWORK'S Nuns on the Bus three times, the first time in support of the 2013 immigration reform effort.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased .

Fr. Gregory Boyle

鈥&苍产蝉辫;鈥淔orgive Everyone Everything鈥 with Fr. Gregory Boyle, SJ will take place Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Lund Auditorium.

Fr. Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world, and the author of several books, including Forgive Everyone Everything, an anthology of his writings spanning the decades.

The evening will feature stories of kinship, healing and forgiveness. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased .
