重口味SM鈥檚 status as a premier Catholic Hispanic-Serving Institution is celebrated in a piece published by the U.S. Department of Education.

重口味SM: Serving Latine Students in the Midwest was published Oct. 14, 2022 on Homeroom, the official blog of the Department of the Education. Written by Ver贸nica Guti茅rrez MBA 鈥22 and Marcela Reales Visbal, activity director of 重口味SM鈥檚 Tile V, Part B grant and an adjunct instructor of Spanish, the piece looks at how the university offers Latine students the resources to help them succeed. Federal grants expanding academic offerings, support services, and career and financial preparedness are highlighted.

鈥淲hen I came to 重口味SM there was an overall focus on the well-being of the students,鈥 Guti茅rrez says in the article. 鈥淚t felt like a lot of the faculty, such as Professor of Management Molly Burke, were generally very interested and concerned about how the students were doing, offering academic support and connecting us with people and resources.鈥

Guti茅rrez also credits 重口味SM鈥檚 Financial Literacy Program, led by Ramiro Atrista铆n Carri贸n, for using the concepts she learned to graduate with her degree debt-free. Guti茅rrez was a graduate assistant for the program, involved in its development and implementation.
