Dr. Joseph Sagerer Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from Suburban College
Dr. Joseph Sagerer, senior lecturer of physics, is the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award from Harper College in Palatine.
This award recognizes Harper College alumni “who have distinguished themselves in their careers and in their service to the community,” the college said. Since 2008, a total of 87 alumnae/i have been honored.
Sagerer received associate’s degrees in both arts and science from Harper College in 1997 before going on to earn bachelor, master and doctorate degrees in physics.
In his award profile, the college noted Sagerer’s work with ؿζSM students in the study of the Mayan Temple of Kukulkan in Chichén Itzá, Mexico using a muon detector. This research was made possible through the National Science Foundation grant that Sagerer received in 2020.
Sagerer told Harper College that the chemistry course he took while a student there “formed the foundation of how I approach problems in my research. Today, I try to challenge my students in a similar way.”
