�ؿ�ζSM is again breaking records.

On Aug. 28, the university welcomed — for the second year in a row — the largest freshman class in its 122-year history.

Just over 650 new, first-year students stepped on campus for the fall semester, reflecting an 8% increase over last year, which also saw its own record-setting freshman enrollment.

The final, official number of first-year students will be available following the September census.

�ؿ�ζSM’s continued focus on data-driven, culturally responsive student support, strong partnerships with local and national organizations that support student success, and ensuring students are job-ready through industry-responsive programs, career development, and professional mentorship have been key to building and maintaining enrollment.

“Our ongoing efforts to reach more prospective students are showing positive results and it is encouraging to see so many students choosing the Catholic liberal arts education we offer,” said �ؿ�ζSM President Dr. Glena G. Temple. “Many of these students are the first in their families to attend college, and we are committed to serving and supporting them as they achieve their academic goals.”  

Even with more students enrolled, �ؿ�ζSM is dedicated to maintaining the small class sizes and wraparound support that students have historically enjoyed, Temple said.

New students greeted the new academic year during Welcome Weekend, held Aug. 25-27 on the River Forest campus. Events included extended orientation to help students transition into the �ؿ�ζSM community, an ice cream social, and DU Fest, an annual celebratory gathering featuring food, music and activities for all students.

The university's continued enrollment growth comes as �ؿ�ζSM plans to expand its academic offerings and workforce development opportunities with a Chicago campus in the Pilsen community. The campus, in partnership with The Resurrection Project, is slated to open in fall 2024.
